Kosovo: We intend to further develop a peaceful, inclusive and democratic society for
all communities said Prime Minister Thaçi in Brussels
Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends,
It gives me great pleasure for me to see so many friends here this evening.
This is a relaxed and informal occasion and not the moment for long speeches.
But I wanted to use this opportunity first to sincerely thank the European Commission
for hosting the conference of donors that is taking place tomorrow and all those who
helped prepare it.
Also I am well aware that the preparations have been hard work. A big thank you to all
those involved.
Tomorrow's conference is a very important event for the new Kosovo. We know that we are
asking for a very substantial amount of money. We also know that this is justified by:
The needs. Too many people in Kosovo live in poverty and the infrastructure needs
improvement. We are already working hard for that.
The ambitions. We intend to further develop a peaceful, inclusive and democratic
society for all communities as well as a prosperous economy.
Our determination to spend the money wisely by strengthening the rule of law and eliminating waste and corruption.
This evening I would like you all to enjoy a bit of Kosovo. Those of you, who have been there, know it a country of great cultural heritage.
We can only bring you a small picture of that this evening, but we can also bring you more concrete things like Kosovo wine and food.
Please enjoy them.
Also please come to Kosovo to get to know the country better and to meet more of our people.
They, all of them from all backgrounds and all communities, are our greatest asset. When we harness our energies by working together, we will build a great future together.
There is a long way to go, but:

with the determination to build a just and democratic country with high standards of protection of human and community rights and of cultural and religious heritage;
|
*
|
with the vision of NATO, EU integration and close relations with the United States.
|
| * |
with the support of the international community we will succeed. |
Once again I thank you all for being with us.
We do hope that you enjoy the evening and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow when
the fresh efforts to develop our country begin
