Lithuania President Adamkus: In the event that US-Polish negotiations fail, we would consider the possibility of deploying the anti-missile defense system (AMD) in Lithuania

At today's press conference, President Valdas Adamkus talked about the importance of the US-designed anti-missile defense (AMD) shield for Lithuania and the entire region.

President Adamkus said that the specific location where the elements of the anti missile defense system would be deployed did not make a great difference. He underlined that negotiations with Lithuania are not being held at this point in time. He further said that he did not consider that Lithuania would be a better place for AMD deployment than Poland.

President Adamkus wished success to the US and Polish negotiators in reaching an agreement which could become a very important European security factor. However, such an agreement on deploying the AMD shield in Poland is not reached, Lithuania would consider very seriously the presence of AMD elements on its territory
