Latvia expresses support for closer Moldovan ties with European Union (EU)

From 9 July until 11 July in Chisinau, Moldova, political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministry of Latvia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova. During the consultations officials discussed bilateral co-operation between the two countries, current issues with regard to EU and Moldova relations, and also the progress in finding a solution to the Transnistrian conflict.

The delegation on the Latvian side was led by Under-Secretary of State Edgars Skuja, and on the Moldovan side – by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Valery Ostalep.

Mr Skuja reiterated Latvia's support for Moldova's efforts to deepen relations with the European Union, emphasising in particular the current debate about the preparation of a new enhanced agreement between the EU and Moldova.

The Deputy State Secretary Skuja met also with the Deputy Minister of Reintegration of Moldova, Ion Stavila, and Mark Tkaciuk, Adviser to the President of Moldova.
