Morocco: Polisario victims urge international community to end plight of Tindouf detainees

A visiting delegation of the victims of the serious breaches of human rights committed by the Polisario separatists, has urged the international community to act in order to end the ordeal of the populations sequestered in the Tindouf camps, Algeria.

Delegation members, including ex-Polisario leader and former detainees told reporters of the ordeal they have gone through during their detention in the Polisario jails in Tindouf.

They aim to show the international public opinion the true face of the Polisario, one of a gang of torturers who wouldn't hesitate to eliminate, in the most cruel methods, any voices that challenge their view.

The international community, including the British public opinion, need to know the reality that prevails in the Polisario-run Tindouf camps, and the harsh humanitarian situation in which thousands of Moroccan Sahrawis are forced to live in the camps, the delegation members said.

The Polisario only try to prolong the artificial conflict on the Moroccan territorial integrity, they said, noting that the Polisario lacks a genuine political visibility for the situation.

The Polisario victims also condemned the movement's tactics to exploit the suffering of the sequestered population so as to attract further international humanitarian aid.

The delegation said it will also discuss with British interlocutors the latest developments triggered in the Sahara issue thanks to the Moroccan proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, The Sahara.

The plan, which was widely praised as serious and credible, provides an opportunity to settle the issue for good, and to open new prospects for the integration of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).

AMU, which includes Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Libya, was created in 1989, but was not activated because of the Algeria's full support to the Polisario.
